Speak Your Way to a Fear-Free Life

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. —2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is all around us. We have even been taught that a “little fear” is good for us. But this is not what the bible teaches…it tells us that fear did not come from God. If fear did not come from God, then why do Christians fight to retain fear in their lives? Why is excuses made for being fearful?

I believe it is because of all the noise that is in the world and in our heads. Everywhere we turn we are faced with something else to be ‘afraid’ of. It doesn’t matter if it is crime, the economy, terrorist attacks, and disease, the government or people in general. We are being sold a fist-full of fear daily. But I have good news! God has given us a remedy to all this fear mongering…that is our faith in His Word and the power it has when we speak it out of our mouths.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)

God gave us the ability and the responsibility of speech. Our use of words can and will determine the course of our lives…although many do believe this. I’ve heard is said, “What I say can’t hurt me”. But I beg to differ, it does matter what you say. Don’t just take my word for it, let’s look at Proverbs 18:21 put another way:

Words kill, words give life;
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose
. (MSG)

When we speak, we are actually ‘sowing’ seeds that will some day bring a harvest. The question is: What do we want to reap when the harvest comes? We cannot want one thing, plant another and expect what we wanted to come up…it does not work that way. Things planted will come up…the choice is ours. We have total control where this is concerned. Life or Death…you choose.

Likewise, where fear is concerned, we must stop feeding on fear at the sources and begin to search the Word of God to learn what He has given us and place our faith in that…regardless of the circumstances. Then, we must begin to speak—in faith—positive affirmations about life, based on the Word of God and faith in ourselves. This is imperative for us! I know some of you may have done okay in life without all of this but I promise you that things planted WILL COME UP.

So, why not begin right now to declare: “I am not a fearful person. Fear does not live in me. I am a conqueror by the Blood of Jesus and because I have made Him Lord of my life, I am victorious in every area of my life…so, I am FEAR FREE!”

  2. Great message. Just yesterday I fearlessly submitted a book proposal to an editor at a Christian publishing house with the tentative title “Be Strong and Courageous: My Year of Living Fearlessly.” I love the 2 Timothy verse, it’s one of my favorites. As I’ve been telling people lately, as long as they can’t take Jesus from me then there is nothing to fear. Peace, Linda

    I have found that much of the fear we have comes from a deep seeded insecurity. If we can be confident in the Lord and believe He is our security, then the fear is dimenished greatly if not completely. You are so right in that todays world is shouting out loud and clear that we are to be afraid. “Fear not for I am with you” is not what is being shouted.

      I agree Sue, those seeds of doubt and fear that has been planted within us and we have been conditioned to believe are at the root of many of our fears. However we are the only ones who can decide to evict fear out of our lives…through the power of our Lord. When He is with us, we have no-thing to fear! Thanks for sharing with us…Blessings!
