David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.—1 Sam 17:37 (KJV)
My last post was an attempt to encourage the reader to believe in the delivering power of God when facing tough challenges in life. It was written as a reminder that we all have faced things we thought would overwhelm us, but through the power of God we made it through and if we made it through those things—we will make it through these things. Now briefly, I would like to take that thought a little further.
My friend, Christians are facing difficulties of every sort all over the world and you are no different. I know the trial may be tough but I want to let you know that you are up to the challenge. No, I do not believe that God places us in the evil circumstances we face; nor do I believe that He makes us sick to teach us…however, this is under much debate. But I do believe He gives us the strength to endure and the power to overcome whatever we face.
But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ.—1 Corinthians 15:57 (AMP)
It must be understood that the sacrifice of Jesus’ shed blood and life on the cross was not only for our sins but for our victory as well. He paid the price to reconcile us to God and to restore all that rightly belong to us as God’s children. That is so significant for us because many do not understand the power of Christ’s sacrifice for us today.
Imagine a little child facing a bully in the schoolyard. The bully has pushed him/her around and they have tired of the harassment and decided to stand up to the bully. Taking this stand with a determination not to go down without a fight, they see the bully begin to back away. Now, they began to gain confidence…not realizing the bully is looking at the kid’s big brother and friends gathering behind him to help.
This example, although juvenile, is to let us know that we can and should show courage when facing the circumstances of our lives; because Jesus has given us the victory over whatever life throws at us! He is standing behind us…along with the Holy Spirit. Things may be big—even overwhelming at times. But nothing you will ever face will overwhelm the power of God! We must see what we don’t see and say, like Paul: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”—Philippians 4:13
Finally, “Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong.”—1 Corinthians 16:13 (Common English Bible)
