The Power of Believing

“…If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23)

Do we really understand the power of believing? To believe, according to the dictionary is “to accept as true or real;” or “to have firm faith…” Far too often we all have heard someone saying, ‘I can’t believe that’. But what are they really saying? As I pointed out in an earlier blog, The Words We Speak; our words have power and they will either work for us or against us. The power is in us and the choice is entirely ours.

Our lives have been built entirely upon the words we have spoken, which comes from the thoughts we have, which are based upon what we believe. That which we believe in our hearts will dominate the thoughts in our heads and those things we spend time thinking about will ultimately begin to be the things we speak most often. And because our words are the creative force of our lives, we in short will begin to experience the very things we are saying—whether you want it or not!

Jesus told us that it is not the things that go into our bodies that defile us; He said rather, it is that which comes out of us that defiles us…(Matt. 15:16-20). This leads me to believe that the things that we believe are the things that are the foundation of what comes out of our mouths in the words that we speak. In other words, the foundation of our words and actions are the things that we believe.

Consequently, if we are not satisfied with what we’re getting out of life, then we must take an account of the things that we believe. If you want to change what you have been getting out of life, you must build your life and your belief system in what you want to come to pass. God has told us in his word that life and death is in the power of the tongue…(Prov. 18:21). In other words, we have the ability to build our lives, or to create our lives for good or for bad…solely from the things that we say!

We absolutely can change anything in our life by changing what we believe. To achieve that, we would have to choose to study the Word of God to find out what God says about us and His plans for us. God has a design and a plan for each of us…the question is, will we do what it takes to find out what God is saying; and what God’s plan is for us. We must take the time to learn the way and the will of God through the systematic study of the His Word, so we can change our belief systems and subsequently change our way of thinking so that we can change our life. Ultimately the choice, the decision, and change, depends entirely upon us and the effort we make. In other words:

Change your believing, change your life!

I am catching up on some of the posts I missed while I away. Thanks for this message. “simply believe”~~ there is nothing too small, nor too great that our Awesome God in all His immeasurable power will not demonstrate to those who will “only believe”.
    Be blessed

It is well worth noting that our Lord places emphasis on “nothing shall be impossible.” This means there is no limitations if we will believe! Blessings to you! –Sebastian

Thank you Sebastian a great message, yes indeed what we think and believe comes from our heart and will motivate our actions and words for good or bad….

Proverbs 23 : 7a For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:

To have life changing thoughts and beliefs, we need God’s wisdom, not fleshy understanding, reasoning and logic which can stagnate and become polluted.

Proverbs 18:4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Psalm 49:3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-7 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

“…the foundation of our words and actions are the things that we believe.” Very powerful statement. Our beliefs are born out of our life experiences, whether right or wrong. The changing can only come from God.
    Keep the Faith!

  12. Thank you for an awesomely inspirational and instructive Word. Feed upon the Word. Digest the Word. Believe The Word. Speak The Word and live the Word.

“Change the way we speak about things and the thing we speak about will change.”

Amen and Amen….if we are feeding on God’s word, hopefully some of that is coming OUT in our lives in words and deeds. Great post! Cool pic too!

    • Sebastian says:

Hello and thank you Liz! We absolutely must feed on the right things, namely the Word, if we want to produce the harvest that will be pleasing to God! Thank you for adding to the discussion! God bless! –Sebastian

You make an excellent point about belief and our words. So often we only give lip service to what God says but live full of unbelief and distrust in him. This belief system does not produce good fruit nor bring positive transformation. We need to cry out to God for his mercy and seek him with all our heart. God hears our cries of desperation for help. Thank you for your post.

    • Sebastian says:

Thank you and you are exactly right! Unbelief is an enemy to a Believer’s faith and will render them powerless against the attacks that come against us. Thank you for your input on this posting! God bless!
