Why Faith?

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 – KJV)

Faith, and the need for it, should be Christianity 101 for every believer. How can one say they are a devoted follower of Christ and not know that God requires faith? To live for and serve God, there must be a desire to please him and it takes faith to accomplish that. Now someone may say, ‘I don’t have any faith’….I have an answer for them. YES you do!!!!!

We all have faith—the Bible says we do! Romans 12:3 (KJV), tells us that God has “dealt to every man the measure of faith.” We exercise our faith every day in many ways. We will sit in a chair confident that it will hold us. We will take an umbrella with us because either it is cloudy or because someone on the TV says it will rain. Finally, we will accept a job and begin to work because someone promised to pay us. This is not hard to see because everyone with a job understands that they must work before getting paid….that’s faith.

Therefore, it is important to note that if we can have faith in people and non-living objects, like chairs, surely we should have faith in God. To trust God is not hard because He has a track record better and longer than anyone or anything. Hey, He made everyone and everything!

It is imperative to understand that God has provided for us everything “that pertain unto life and godliness, through…exceeding great and precious promises;” (2 Peter 1:3 – KJV) and we must trust and have confidence in Him and His willingness to give us His best at all times and in every circumstance.

Given shocking health issue news year ago, I asked the German doctor, “`Do you believe in God?'” He said, “No, but for my patients that pray, the prognosis is always better'”. I looked him squarely in the eyes and stated, “‘Watch what God does in my life.” A resident of France, I flew home to the States, attended my hometown church for one month where I tanked up on joy, the Holy Spirit, positive energy and a tremendous dose of laying on of hands….but the biggest hand was that of God…. Soon thereafter, I returned to Europe and had a checkup with the Doc. After my checkup, he said, “You have no symptoms of your illness!” I said, “I don’t have an illness!” Soon thereafter my Aunt in the States sent me a necklace with a droplet encased in gold.. Inside the droplet was a mustard seed and on the back of the gold inlay was the mustard seed parable from Matthew 17:20…the faith of the mustard seed. I have since misplaced/lost the necklace, but my faith in God can never be questioned, removed, nor unanchored. Presently, symptoms of my illness have surfaced and I have undergone therapy…..I continue to be a witness of God’s power, grace, love and light…. my faith….unmovable…

Good for you! We must be willing to make a bold statement of our faith that God will take care of business! I am so glad to hear your testimony…keep telling it regardless of what anyone else says…for “we walk by faith, not by sight.” Remember, David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. Also, do not forget the significance of the ‘mustard seed’. We use faith (the Word) as we would a seed–PLANT IT in the soil of our heart!!!!

  2. Good points, especially regarding Romans 12:3. I think sometimes we pull out our “spiritual resumes” and try to compare ourselves with fellow believers, forgetting all the while that if God had not granted us a measure of faith by grace we could not have done anything worthy of being presented for His glory… much less even had the faith to get saved in the first place!
